KUALA LUMPUR: Investigations will be carried out into news, videos and audios circulating on social media about the Rohingya community.
Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said for now, Malaysians should keep calm and not raise issues that could result in unwanted incidents.
He said police were investigating the matter as some videos and audios about the Rohingyas could be fake.
“Only the police can confirm whether the videos and audios are fake or not. Give them the chance to investigate.
“In the meantime, I hope everyone can keep calm,” he said during his daily press conference today.
It was peculiar, he said, that this has turned into a big issue during the Movement Control Order (MCO).
He said there were too many postings on social media about the Rohingyas and the posts were causing people to loathe the community.
He said Malaysia, as a peaceful country had accepted the community and there were no issues on that.
“The Rohingyas did not arrive in our country yesterday, but years ago and before this, issues like these were not raised.
